Are X-rays necessary and how often do I need them taken?

We feel that dental x-rays taken at appropriate intervals are a valuable diagnostic tool. There are many dental problems which may go undetected without the aid of x-rays. We generally recommend a set of decay detecting bitewing x-rays on an annual basis and a full series of diagnostic films on a 3-5 years basis.

At what age do you recommend my child have their first dental visit?

We like to see children and we recommend that they have their first dental visit by the age of three. We like the first dental visit to be a fun and informative experience. What are sealants and would my child benefit from them?

Sealants are a protective coating that are placed in the pits and fissures of posterior teeth. By sealing the pits and fissures of the posterior teeth we can often prevent decay from getting started. Following a thorough exam the dentist can determine if sealants are indicated for your child.

What is gum disease and how do I know if I have it?

Gum disease is an infection of the tissue and bone that surrounds the teeth. If left untreated it can progress to the point of tooth loss. Gum disease often does not cause pain. If you notice red, puffy or bleeding gums it may be an indication that you have gum disease. A thorough examination by your dentist can determine the health of your teeth and gum tissues.
